Daria

A sentiment to get behind

The Athens Pizza Express on Clairmont Road is spelling out on their marquee in ALL CAPS:

HEY BIN LADEN
TREAT WOMEN
WITH RESPECT

I've heard that women are now wearing lipstick in Kabul. What an unusual symbol of changing times to these Western eyes.

I do hope that the hopefully-soon-to-be Afghan government has some sort of view of women's rights. It bugs me to no end that there was more international outrage over the Taliban's destruction of art (don't get me wrong; that sucked too) than its treatment of women. "Cultural differences"... All I'm saying is, any society that ignores the humanity of half its citizens is not a society to be trusted.
